Club de Madrid holds Global Dialogue on Countering Extremism

Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, President of the Club de Madrid, Former President of Latvia, invited Serageldin to participate in  the Club de Madrid’s Policy Dialogue titled “Madrid+10 Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism” held in Madrid, Spain, October 27th and 28th, 2015. The conference participants  included Club de Madrid Members, current political leaders and heads of state, international experts, government representatives, policy makers, international organizations, religious leaders, private sector, academia, think tanks and civil society organizations. The Policy Dialogue addressed the issues of countering violent extremism and radicalization from different angles, with the aim to identifying good practices, policies, tools and mechanisms with global and local relevance. Keynote speakers at the conference included. King Felipe VI of Spain; Habib Essid , Prime Minister of Tunisia; Ban Ki-moon,  Secretary-General, United Nations.

 

The Club de Madrid is an independent organization dedicated to the promotion of democracy and changes in the international community. It consists of 80 former presidents and prime ministers from 56 countries.
