Innovative Approaches in Addressing Climate Change

Hundreds of policymakers, business leaders, and researchers from all over the world participated in The First Annual Conference of Innovation for Cool Earth Forum (ICEF) which was held on the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe’s proposal to establish a new international conference to discuss global cooperation to address climate change.

 

The meeting opened with a (video message) address by Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, and an address by Daishiro Yamagiwa, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, followed by a keynote speech by Takeshi Uchiyamada, Chairman Toyota Motor Corporation.

 

Serageldin, a Steering Committee member of the ICEF, chaired a session on “ Cooperation between Developing and Developed Countries”, and began by posing the question “Why do we need a cooperation between developing and developed countries in addressing climate change?” He presented the main points of the discussion:  new paradigm to address the challenges of climate change and economic development, innovative approach for technology transfer and its success factors,  and policies to promote innovation at a global scale. The topics were discussed by leading experts on the latest trends in the field.

 

Concurrent sessions also discussed Solar Energy, Geothermal Power, Automobile Technology, Energy Efficiency, Smart Community, The Role of Public Sector for RDD&D.
