Discussing European Peace

 Under the auspices of Mr. Mladen Ivanic, member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Nizami Ganjavi International Center (NGIC) held a conference in Sarajevo on 22-23 November entitled “The European Peace. What is the Recipe for a strong Union for All?”.  The meeting brought together former and present leaders and top level experts to explore the shifting nature of political power structures in the world. As co-chair of the NGIC, Serageldin shared opening and closing panels with Mladen Ivanić, Member of the Presidency of Bosnia & Herzegovina; Rosen Plevneliev, President of the Republic of Bulgaria;  Gjorge Ivanov, President of the Republic of Macedonia; Filip Vujanovic, President of Montenegro; Vaira-Vike Freiberga, President of Latvia (1999-2007) & Co-Chair, NGIC; and Abdulaziz Altwaijri, Director General of ISESCO.

 

Leaders discussed these issues and their solutions in five panels:

The Dayton Peace Agreement – Twenty Years Later

Is there a European Future for the Balkans?

Charting a “New European Map” for Citizens

Getting Multiculturalism in Europe Back on Track

What Europe does the world need?

In addition, a briefing on the American Elections and their repercussions to Europe was held.

 

Established in 2012 on the 870th anniversary of the ancient Azeri poet Nizami Ganjavi, the NGIC is a cultural center for learning, tolerance, dialogue and understanding

 

During his stay in Sarajevo, Serageldin also visited Sarajevo University where he was received by the Rector, Rifat Skrijelj. During the meeting the possibilities of cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina were discussed.
